(Ottawa, Canada) - The federal government launched a telecom competition roadmap October 28, promising easier provider switching and stronger competition in mobile and Internet services.
ISED says the plan combines access to existing networks, support for expansion and measures intended to help customers compare offers. It will track prices, switching, speed, coverage and complaints.
Some measures predate the announcement: the release points to fibre-network access requirements supported in August 2025 and switching rules adopted in spring 2026. Further work includes coordinating infrastructure excavation, spectrum rules and CRTC consumer protections.
The roadmap describes policy goals and actions still to come. Its release does not establish an immediate reduction in every customer’s bill.
