(Ottawa, Canada) - Canada is continuing a narrower form of temporary support for eligible Haitian and Sudanese nationals already in the country who cannot return home because of the crises there.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said October 27 that eligible people with a valid work permit issued under the previous temporary measures may apply to extend it. Standard processing fees apply.

The earlier measures were due to expire October 27. The targeted extension of the measures runs until December 30, 2027, according to IRCC. This is an opportunity for eligible permit holders to apply, rather than an automatic extension of everyone’s immigration status.

People seeking to extend visitor status or a study permit can use IRCC’s existing application channels, the notice says.
