Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward is asking the Ontario government to protect greenspace at Millcroft as residents continue opposing housing development on the golf course.

CHCH reported Friday that the mayor has written to the province seeking action that would maintain parks and open-space zoning.

Residents contest the loss of greenspace

Development work proceeded following Ontario Land Tribunal approval. Residents interviewed by CHCH described tree removal and concerns about changes behind their homes.

Opponents also raised flooding fears. Those concerns are their assessment of potential risks; the report does not establish that the planned development has caused a flood.

Meed Ward says she wants provincial support for council’s unanimous opposition. The request is a renewed political appeal, rather than confirmation that Ontario has issued the requested order.

CHCH’s report focuses on the mayor and residents opposing development and does not include a new response from the developer or provincial government.
