The Toronto Blue Jays have distanced themselves from social media posts shared by outfielder Anthony Santander, saying individual comments do not represent the organization’s values and beliefs.

CityNews and Daily Hive’s Offside reported on November 5 that Santander shared videos containing anti-Muslim messages on Instagram after the U.S. midterm elections. Both outlets reported that the posts were subsequently removed.

Offside reported that a Blue Jays spokesperson supplied a statement addressing the posts. CityNews also carried the club’s response, which emphasized that fans should feel welcome at the ballpark.

“Individual comments do not represent our organization’s values and beliefs,” the statement said.

The reports described videos making hostile generalizations about Muslims and Muslim elected officials. Offside identified two videos shared to Santander’s Instagram story and included an image attributed to his account. CityNews reported that the posts had been taken down Thursday morning.

The Northern Current has not independently inspected the original Instagram stories. Its account of the posts is based on the two outlets’ reporting. Neither report included an explanation from Santander, and neither described a disciplinary decision by the Blue Jays or Major League Baseball.

The club’s statement addressed its commitment to an inclusive experience for fans. It did not announce a change to Santander’s playing status or contract.

Santander joined Toronto before the 2025 season on a five-year deal worth $92.5 million, according to both reports. They said injuries limited him to 54 games with the Blue Jays and that he missed the 2026 season because of a shoulder injury.
