(Toronto, Canada) – Ontario says it has finished removing bike-lane infrastructure and restoring vehicle lanes along a 1.2-kilometre stretch of Bloor Street West between Clissold Road and Royal York Road.
The transportation ministry announced the completion October 30. It said vehicle lanes have been restored in both directions on that section.
The work included removing precast curbs, delineators, signs and bus pads, along with pavement repairs, resurfacing, new road markings and updated signage.
Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria presented the work as a way to increase road capacity and reduce congestion. The announcement does not include before-and-after traffic measurements establishing those effects.
The completed segment is separate from a 600-metre section between Resurrection Road and Clissold Road, where the province says it restored a vehicle lane while retaining a bike lane in December 2025.
The ministry also described a separate request for proposals issued in September 2026 to study designs for restoring vehicle lanes on portions of Bloor Street and several other Toronto roads. That design process is distinct from Friday’s completion announcement and does not establish that work on those other roads is finished.
The latest announcement concerns the Clissold-to-Royal York segment. It should not be read as a claim that all bike lanes along Bloor Street have been removed.
